What you seeIts colonial style building, large nameplate and location on the busy Sayyaji Rao Road in the heart of the city make Cauvery a city landmark.  Innumerable wooden toys and key chains grab our attention at the entrance. The store occupies more than 5,000 square feet and is the place to shop for handicrafts in Mysore.

What you getCauvery is affiliated to the Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation and its colossal collection includes handicrafts, jewelry, ethnic wear (for men and women), furniture, paintings, idols and home décor items.

Sourced from artisans in rural Karnataka, its products are exhibited all around this museum-like store. The idols and carvings are primarily of Hindu Gods and Goddesses, elephants and chariots. The prices of these intricate carvings start from Rs. 1,000 and stretch over to a lakh.

We spot many interesting things like a carved rosewood garden swing (Rs. 2.28 lakh) and a beautiful statue of Lord Ganesha (Rs. 1.13 lakh). The furniture section has artistically created beds, dining tables, wall cabinets, coffee table sets, sofa sets etc. All the furniture is made from rosewood and is decorated with either carvings or paintings. The dining tables are the most attractive. They cost between Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 2 lakh. Although these are high prices, they seem appropriate for the quality and design.

Women must take a look at the exquisite silk sarees, robes and tops. A very impressive collection of jewelry at a separate counter also beckons the ladies. You can also buy carpets, bed linen, key chains, wooden toys, sandalwood pieces (Rs. 85 per gram), wooden bangles, slippers, shawls etc at Cauvery. In Karnataka, it has branches in Mangalore, Bangalore and Hubli. In other parts of the country, there are stores in Delhi, Chennai, Secunderabad and Kolkata.

Our verdict – Cauvery is heaven for art lovers with its treasure of beautiful things. You will fall in love with the store and marvel at the large collection of products. The store is a must-visit just for the visual treat it offers. You can source gift articles for all occasions from this store. There is ample parking space around the store.
