What you get - Kendriya Vidyalaya
is one of the well-known co-educational schools in Mysore situated on GITB Press Campus at Siddarthanagar. The school was started in 1993 with a student strength f 100 and with classes from 1 to 5 on a temporary site close to the present location and today it offers schooling from Class 1 to Class 12 and follows the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE
) curriculum. Now, the student strength of the school exceeds 1,600 and the staff strength includes around 52 teachers. Kendriya Vidyalaya has three sections for class 1 to 10 and two sections for PUC (11th and 12th / Intermediate). English is the mandatory first language, with Kannada, Sanskrit or Hindi being offered as the second and third language options. For PUC the school offers science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computer Science and Biology).
Kendriya Vidyalaya in Mysore has 40 classrooms, five labs (including a Maths lab), three computer labs (with broadband Internet connection) and five general rooms. We see highly evolved and innovative modern teaching aids used in the classrooms which are spacious, well-ventilated and offer comfortable seating facility for the students. The school also boasts of a well-equipped seminar hall with audio-visual aids like OHP, television and a mounted LCD projector. The school has a well-stocked library with a collection exceeding 6,000. We are told that the school subscribes to 16 magazines (including educational and general) and six newspapers too.
One of the non-teaching staff taking us around the school shows us the facilities for indoor games like table tennis, chess and carom along with a spacious playground for outdoor sports like football, volleyball, cricket, basketball etc. He adds that the school along with providing ample opportunities and facilities to the students to excel in sports encourages other extracurricular activities like debates, music, art and craft, painting, drama etc too. The children are taken for educational field trips once a year and one-day picnics depending on the academic schedule. The monthly school fees range from Rs. 160 to Rs. 290 depending on the classes. The school offers transport facility. We are also told that during the admission process the school gives top priority to children of transferable and non-transferable central government, state government and public sector employees and provides reservation for schedule caste, schedule tribe and handicapped children.
Our verdict -
Kendriya Vidyalaya has impressive facilities. The school enjoys a good reputation and is known for attaining good academic results. Apart from the educational amenities, the extracurricular facilities are worth a mention. Residential facilities and food though are not offered. There is ample parking space near the entrance of the school.
