Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, an excellent boys' residential school | Mysore

What you see – Tall trees, lush greenery and a lovely garden at the entrance, with surrounding high compound walls, make Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala at Yadavagiri in Mysore a scenic and safe place. In fact, we are allowed to enter only after a proper check by the security guard at the entrance gate. Although the school is situated inside city limits, the eco-friendly ambience gives it a peaceful aura. We also see stone benches and concrete platforms in different corners inside the campus for students and visitors to rest upon.

What you get
Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, started in 1953, is an exclusive boys’ school. It offers schooling from classes eight to ten, and follows the Karnataka State Secondary Education Examination Board syllabus (KSEEB). The medium of instruction is English. The campus of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala is spread over an area of 67 acres. The school and residential blocks are situated at the entrance of the school, with the library on the opposite side. Students at Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala can choose either English or Kannada as the first language and Hindi or Sanskrit as the second and third languages, respectively. We are told by one of the school administrative staff that the school maintains a 40:1 student–teacher ratio.  The classrooms of the school are spacious and well ventilated. They are furnished with single and with two-seater desks.  At Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala,  modern teaching aids play an important role. So this school has a 16mm projector and an overhead projector at its disposal, and also computers with multi-media features (computer classes and typing classes are mandatory for all students). The other facilities at the school include full-fledged science labs (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), a computer lab, a tissue culture chamber and an astronomical observatory with computerized telescopes. The school has a well-stocked library with more than 16,000 books and is equipped with computerized circulation and information retrieval systems.

Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala has ample opportunities and facilities for students to excel in extracurricular activities. There are 20 playground fields here, along with a swimming pool and a gymnasium. The school conducts basketball classes, volleyball classes, football classes, hockey classes and swimming classes, and also has facilities for indoor sports like carrom, table tennis and chess. Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala also conducts painting classes, vocal music classes, Sanskrit language classes and yoga classes. The general amenities include a prayer hall and a well-furnished 500-seater auditorium (equipped with a 35mm projector) with greenroom facilities. The residential facilities at Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala are also topnotch. These include clean and spacious dormitories for students, a hairdressing salon and also a medical ward with ten beds. The students are served vegetarian food only. The annual fee of the school is approximately Rs. 51,000 (includes schooling and boarding). The school also offers the option to students to apply for classes 11 to 12 (if they score over 85 per cent in their tenth boards) for the Science stream only. Students from other schools too can apply for the same.

Our verdict – Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala offers a multitude of opportunities for students to grow academically as well as individually. The school follows a planned study schedule and conducts educational field trips, and also has an experienced teaching staff. Entrance and physical tests are conducted before admissions. There is ample parking space inside the premises of the school.
